Be Careful How We Speak to Others

Let the Lord guide our tongues in love. If we are not cautious, we can tear a person down, which we are not meant to do. We should lift up our brothers and sisters in Christ. Sometimes, when we speak to others out of hurt they can mistake our words and go on to spread untruths. Just recently, I spoke out of turn regarding my hurts from many years ago. I was wrong; I should have gone to Jesus with my hurts and let Jesus handle the matter. I let the hurt feast within me instead of going to Jesus in prayer, and it resulted in trouble.

“Please forgive me, Jesus, and teach me how to speak for You.” This is the prayer I spoke the other night and He comforted me. He showed me how many in the Bible have made mistakes, and He forgave them. He quieted my spirit, and I was able to sleep again. I am so thankful for His comfort and grace.

Proverbs 13:3

He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

Proverbs 15:1

A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

Proverbs 21:23

Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.

Ecclesiastes 5:2

Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in Heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

Matthew 12:36-37

36-[Jesus said] But I say unto you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

37-For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

James 1:19

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.

James 3:5-6

5-Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

6-And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
