The Anointing
As Christians, our focus should remain on God rather than seeking human praise. Throughout Scripture, the “oil of Heaven” symbolizes the Holy Spirit, consecration, and divine blessing. Just as David was anointed King of Israel with the “oil of joy,” we use oil today as a tangible point of faith for healing and protection. However, it is important to remember that the power does not lie in the oil itself, but in the Holy Spirit and the prayer of faith. The oil simply serves as a point of contact to help us focus on God’s promises and His holy work in our lives.
1 Samuel 16:13
Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward...
Psalm 23:5
Thou prepares a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Psalm 45:7
…God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
James 5:14
Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the LORD.
Exodus 30:31
[Thus saith the Lord] This shall be a holy anointing oil unto Me throughout your generations.
